Pinning is very addicting.
Sunset at the ancient ruins in Rome.
[Did I mention that my friend and I (sort of) witnessed a marriage proposal while we were there?]
St Peter’s Basilica - Vatican City (Rome), Italy
Let’s be honest. The only reason we want to study abroad in the U.K. is because it allows us to be within arms reach of mainland Europe. Don’t deny!
All this chatter about the new Pope reminded me of the trip I took to Italy last year.
Instead of flying out of Newcastle, I flew out of Manchester Airport. It is a larger airport and has more international flights than NCL. My flight was at 7am - so that sucked - but Rome in January was amazing. The crowds are (for the most part) non-existent, and what would have normally been a couple hrs wait in line was only about 20 minutes in order to enter St Peter’s.
My other post about my trip to St Peter’s can be found here.
Trust me, you will thank me later.
Because it took me 15 minutes, a panic attack because I thought I wouldn’t make the train, an old guy who couldn’t speak English (nor I Italian), and several sporadic hand gestures to get this right.
After exploring the Coliseum, we went over to the ruins (Roman Forum, Palatino). Up in the Palatino there is a great view of ancient Rome:

We were sitting on a bench resting our feet and I was completely ignoring this couple off to our left. Then the guy turns to us and asks my friend to please take a picture. His girlfriend (now fiancee?) is teary eyed and was trying to compose herself for the picture, saying that she is ‘so emotional right now’ but she was smiling.
After we left, my friend told me that she smelled a marriage proposal. So freakin cute.
